Update #8
almost 5 years ago – Sat, Jun 22, 2019 at 12:16:22 AM

I’m having issues trying to post this with my phone. I had a video opening the box, but it’s not loading. 😔 We got bags today!!! It’s a good thing I asked if you all wanted gold or black liners because you were 50/50. We are another step closer. As I’m making each jar individually by hand, I appreciate you patience.

There is one day to complete your surveys.

If you have not done so yet...please log on and do this now. We want to be able to get your item/s to you.

Thanks for your help and support.

PS  We should be able to start shipping out the first orders in the next few weeks. : )

Update #6
almost 5 years ago – Thu, Jun 13, 2019 at 08:24:51 PM

Hello everyone, we are still so thankful for all the support! We have still been receiving materials. We recently got something like 50 pounds of dice. Woo hoo!

I have been been making progress on starting the process of hand making all of these. Haha It gives me time to watch YouTube while I’m working on them. 😀

I do want to remind everyone to please COMPLETE YOUR BACKERKIT SURVEY. The deadline is Friday June 21st (USA).

This must be done to collect delivery addresses and delivery fees.

If the survey is not completed (we are unable to collect this info) then we cannot deliver and your Kickstarter pledge will be forfeit.

We do not want to keep your money and not deliver your product.

As Jerry McGuire said, “help me, to help you!”

PLEASE COMPLETE YOUR SURVEY TODAY

Love you all, -DM Dunn

Update #7
almost 5 years ago – Thu, Jun 13, 2019 at 08:24:34 PM

Dusty already covered the Backerkit surveys earlier today. A huge thank you to those who have completed them!

There are about 41 of you who still need to complete your surveys however.. We're planning to lock the orders on June 21, surveys can be completed until then. (You can also make updates to your add-ons etc until then if you have already completed it.)  Not to be repetitious, but if you haven't received your survey, or need it resent, just reach out either here or to info (at) dmdunn.com and we'll take care of you. Next week I plan on starting to reach out individually to those of you who have not yet finished to make sure you have the link.

Lastly, shipping addresses will be able to be updated right up until we start shipping orders, so don't worry if you're moving etc. We'll be reaching out with further updates as we get close to that time.

I also wanted to give you all some updates on our progress - including potion jar assembly, dice, corks and lastly, some shipping updates for the EU.

As Dusty mentioned - items have been arriving. Dusty has been hard at work and is making good progress on the potion bottles. He's currently doing the string and dragon charms. I've been doing some prep work to get them cleaned up for resin.

To mix things up, he's been doing both the red and black string versions for the alternate colors. We're waiting on resin, which should be here shortly and then we'll be able to start finishing off some jars!

We've received the dice and the pieces I've spot checked have all looked good. I can't say I've ever wondered what 13,000 d4s might look like, but now I know.. ;)

A whole bunch of d4s..
A whole bunch of d4s..

I'll be going through them in more detail when we start to pack items for shipment, but the manufacturer seems to have done a great job. At my request, they even packed the d4s in bags of 10, so they will be easier to pack for the full jars. There should be less chance of counting errors that way. The individual dice sets are also bagged individually.

I will take some pictures of the dice sets and update the add-on item pics on the Backerkit site this weekend. If you want some, there are still a handful of sets available. Blue, green, red, and purple are very close to being sold out though, so update your orders now if you want them!

I spent five more hours with our laser guy on Tuesday and we've finished the corks. I got us a good price on the lasering by donating labor to the cause.  (Don't worry Nina - we pulled a couple blank corks aside for you. :) )

It was actually a fun process figuring out how to do these in quantity. We first made a jig by laser cutting 64 cork sized holes in a 12x12 sheet of plywood and added some spacers to help us line it up when we flipped it over. We duplicated the design on the template to match the positioning and viola! we could laser 64 at a time. We'd then stick another board on top and flip it over to laser the backs.

The end result was a box full of corks with dragons on them that were very consistent..MUCH better than lining them up by hand like I did the prototypes. :)

So, all in all, we're making great progress and it feels like we're on track to hit (or hopefully beat) our shipping goal. I will be flying to New York next week to take care of some family business. I'll also be visiting some family in Philadelphia, PA and Charlottesville, VA as well some business in Charlottesville, NC. I'll be driving back to the West coast, most likely on route 40. If any of your are on that route and want to meet, hit me up, and we'll grab a beer. I'm hoping to be back home the first or second week of July.

Give Dusty some love while I'm gone, as he'll be working away on his own to get these out on time.

The rest of this update doesn't impact anyone in the US or Canada, so feel free to stop reading here.

As I mentioned a while back, I was able to find a shipping aggregator who had better rates to Europe and the rest of the world. I am sorry to say I was not able to get any better pricing on the smaller packages however.. I contacted about half a dozen direct shipping companies and aggregators but nobody seems to be able to do better on those. :/ Most of their prices were actually higher for small packages than what we already had however, so there won't be any changes for single jars or complete sets.

If you have larger orders however, I have good news, we were able to get some significant savings on shipping. Sorry for the delay in updating you, because orders had already been placed, I wasn't able to update the shipping tables in Backerkit myself, and wanted to have that locked down before making an announcement. The excellent support team at Backerkit were able to do so on the back-end however. That was completed earlier today. So, some shipping costs, particularly to the EU, as well as other countries have come down on larger orders. There is nothing you need to do, your orders have automatically been updated and you'll be charged the smaller amount.

Thank you all again for backing the project, and for hanging in there!
